March Challenge Completed!!

I’m back!! I have been extremely busy the past two weeks. Between planning lessons, report card conferences, grad school projects and starting a new healthy eating/workout plan, I have had no time to do anything else but work, eat workout and sleep. I did get some reading done though. I read a lot in the morning and before I went to bed. This month my challenge was to read a book by an author that is new to me. I am happy to say that I completed this challenge twice.

The first book I read was The Storied Life of A.J Fikry by Gabrielle Zevin.

My Review

I picked up this book because it had an interesting premise and I had heard a lot of good things about this book. It also satisfied my challenge because I have never read anything by Gabrielle Zevin.

This book broke my heart into a million pieces. I really enjoyed the story and how it unfolded. The characters seemed so real and flawed. I liked that all the characters had a back story that effected the way they thought and acted. This story was really for book lovers. There were lots of references to books and the love of reading. People’s lives were brought together by their love of reading.

This book spans the life of A.J and we get to see how he grows and changes. I wasn’t expecting that, but was pleasantly surprised at how much I loved it. There are some major events in his life that shape him as a person. Unfortunately, I can’t say anything here because they would spoil you. But if you love books with strong character development, this is the book for you. My only complaint was that it was a little slow in the middle. But the ending is worth sticking around for. 🙂

This month I also started the Amulet graphic novel series by Kazu Kibuishi. I had heard some buzz about it on booktube and was interested. I just finished the Saga series and was ready for more graphic novels.

I really like this series. It is a middle grade fantasy graphic novel series. The illustrations are amazing and colorful and the story line is very interesting. What I like the most is the buzz it has created in my classroom! Since this is middle grade, I decided to put them in my classroom library as I finished them (I have finished the first three so far). Everyone wants to read them! They love the series. We had to start a sign up list to keep track of who gets the book next. I love anything that gets them so excited about reading.

The author of this series is also the same artist who designed the newest Harry Potter covers. But I have never read anything by him. So…this also counts toward my March challenge.

I have been in a weird reading mood this past week. I have picked up several books and nothing as interested me. I have plenty of books to read, but nothing is grabbing my interest.

Have you read any of these books? What are you currently reading? Let me know in the comments below.
