TBR Jar Challenge 2015

In the past, I have had a TBR (To Be Read) jar. I went through and cleaned my bookshelves and inventoried all of my unread books. I put the titles on colorful sheets of paper and put them into a mason jar. I was ready to pick out a title and reduce my pile of unread books! It sounded like a great idea, and could work for someone, just not me. I am very much a mood reader. I don’t usually plan what I am going to read, I just go to my bookshelves and choose whatever I am feeling at the moment. Suffice it to say, every time I picked from the jar, it was something that I didn’t want to read at the time. I put it back and my jar sat unused on my shelf for a long time.

That is why I am excited to participate in this unique challenge!

Kat, from Katytastic on YouTube, came up with this challenge. She is one of my favorites and you should definitely go check out her channel. Anyway, the challenge consists of 12 monthly challenges. I like it because the challenges don’t tell you to read specific books, so I can read anything that fits my mood and the challenge. Each month, I will pick a challenge strip and have the month to complete it. I am really excited to make this part of my 2015 reading goals!

Here are the 12 challenges I put into the TBR jar.

  1. Read a book with 500+ pages
  2. Reread a favorite book
  3. Read a 2015 debut
  4. Read a book someone else picks
  5. Listen to an audiobook
  6. Read a book you DNF’d (Did Not Finish)
  7. Read a new to you author
  8. Read a book that is not a novel
  9. Read a book to TV/movie adaptation (and watch!)
  10. Read a book that won an award
  11. Read a classic novel
  12. Finish a series

I will be starting this challenge in January and picking a strip from the jar at the beginning of every month. I will keep you posted on my progress!!

Are you doing any reading challenges for the new year? How do you tackle your TBR pile? I would love to hear from you! 🙂
